Waste Management

During the 2014 Sustainability and Innovation Camp in Kabala, Project 1808 began a community clean up initiative to collect waste littering the ground. The event quickly caught on in the community and became a monthly event fully organized by community members. As Kabala, like much of Sierra Leone, does not have an organized waste management system, we have sparked a grass-roots effort striving for a cleaner, healthier community and environment.

Through various initiatives, Project1808 is working to not only educate our community about the science and effects of climate change, but we are working to mobilize our students in efforts to create a more sustainable community.

At both the 2016 and 2017 Science and Leadership Festival, we included activities and experiments focused on climate science in order to develop a thorough understanding of climate change, green house gasses, and the environmental impact of human activities.
